The Rotary Club of Ashburn is pleased to welcome our guest speaker Past District Governor Sandy Duckworth this week.   
 
Sandy joined Rotary in January 1989 and was one of the first women in the Honolulu RC.  Served as 2002-03 District 7610 Governor.  Maintains perfect attendance for 27 years, is a Rotary Foundation Major Donor, a Bequest Society Charter Member, a Rotary Foundation Sustaining Member and a Paul Harris Society Charter member of District 7610.
 
During her year as Governor, Sandy established the District Paul Harris Society, the Essay and Speech Contests, Citizen of the Year and many other programs and recognitions that remain today.  She has chaired and been a discussion leader and/or keynote speaker at numerous PETS, Assemblies, District Conferences and Rotary Club Meetings.  She is past president of the Rotary Leadership Institute Zone 33 Board of Directors and is a faculty member and faculty trainer.  She also serves on the Rotary Global History Fellowship Board of Directors and is the Secretary of the Rotary Safe Water & Sanitation Board of Trustees. 
 
She has received the Governor’s “Service Above Self” award, The Rotary Foundation District Service Award, The Rotary Foundation Citation for Meritorious Service, the Rotary Foundation Distinguished Service Award - the Foundation’s highest honor – and Rotary International’s highest honor, the Service Above Self award.   She has received several RI Presidential committee appointments and has been honored to represent three RI Presidents at district conferences.      
 
She is a former Fairfax County, Virginia elected official and is the retired President of Duckworth & Associates – a fundraising, event-planning company.  She and husband Don live in Fredericksburg, Virginia.  They have three children and five grandchildren all of whom are Paul Harris Fellows.  Sandy & Don are Major Donors and Bequest Society members of The Rotary Foundation.
